Applications now being accepted for “Mixed Doubles – 2018 and Beyond Program”

Applications are now being accepted for 2015-2016 entry into the Ontario Curling Council’s Mixed Doubles Program. The following camp opportunities are available:

Adult Mixed Doubles Training Camp

December 5, 2015, Port Arthur Curling Club, Thunder Bay

Up to 12 teams will be accepted into this training camp, where they will receive instruction on Mixed Doubles strategy, application of new Mixed Doubles rules, skill-based testing, and an opportunity for game play with coaching assistance available.

  • Two teams will be identified from the camp using a combination of skill-based testing and game performance to continue in the “Mixed Doubles – Get Ready for Provincials Program”. These teams must agree to play in either OCA or NOCA Mixed Doubles provincial playdowns. If they cannot commit to playing in the Mixed Doubles provincials, their spot in the “Get Ready for Provincials Program” will go to the next best team.
  • The “Mixed Doubles – Get Ready for Provincials Program” will include two technical training sessions per team, with an assigned provincial coach, prior to Mixed Doubles provincials.
  • If this program is over-subscribed, the Ontario Curling Council’s Mixed Doubles Committee will make team selections using previous mixed doubles results.
  • Athletes who are under 21 years of age will also be welcome!
  • Fee:$100.00. Fees will be collected via the OCA’s online registration system, upon acceptance into the program.
  • There is no at-camp transportation being provided and hotel arrangements are the responsibility of the athletes.
  • All athletes will be required to sign an OCC waiver form.

Adult Mixed Doubles Training Camp

December 12, 2015, Grimsby

Fifteen teams will be accepted into this training camp, where they will receive instruction on Mixed Doubles strategy, application of new mixed doubles rules, mental performance training for mixed doubles, skill-based testing and an opportunity for game play with coaching assistance available.

  • Two teams will be identified from the camp using a combination of skill-based testing and game performance to continue in the “Mixed Doubles – Get Ready for Provincials Program”. These teams must agree to play in OCA or NOCA Mixed Doubles provincial playdowns. If they cannot commit to playing in the Mixed Doubles provincials, their spot in the “Get Ready for Provincials Program” will go to the next best team.
  • The “Mixed Doubles – Get Ready for Provincials Program” will include two technical training sessions per team, with an assigned provincial coach, prior to Mixed Doubles provincials.

  • NOCA Juniors – because of a conflict in this date with NOCA Junior Provincials – your applications will be considered for the Adult Mixed Doubles Camp.
  • Athletes who are under 21 years of age, but planning to play Mixed Doubles with a person over 21 years of age, will also be considered.
  • Fee: $160.00 – includes lunch and dinner.  Fees will be collected via the OCA’s online registration system, upon acceptance into the program.
  • There is no at-camp transportation being provided and hotel arrangements are the responsibility of the athletes.
  • All athletes will be required to sign an OCC waiver.

U21 (Under 21 years old) Mixed Doubles Training Camp

January 2, 2016, Toronto (Weston Curling Club)

Sixteen teams (may be expanded to 24) will be accepted into this training camp, where they will receive instruction on Mixed Doubles strategy, application of new mixed doubles rules, mental performance training for mixed doubles, skill-based testing and an opportunity for game play with coaching assistance available.

  • Athletes shall be 20 years of age or under as of June 30, 2016
  • Two teams will be identified from the camp using a combination of skill- based testing and game performance to continue in the Mixed Doubles – “Get Ready for Provincials Program” providing they are available to compete in the NOCA or OCA’s Mixed Doubles Provincials. If they cannot commit to playing in the Mixed Doubles provincials, their spot in the “Get Ready for Provincials Program” will go to the next best team.
  • The “Mixed Doubles – Get Ready for Provincials Program” will include two technical training sessions per team, with an assigned provincial coach, prior to Mixed Doubles Provincials.
  • NOCA Juniors – because of a conflict with this date with your Junior provincials, your application will be considered to the Adult Mixed Doubles Camp.
  • Fee: $160.00 – includes lunch and dinner. Fees will be collected via the OCA’s online registration system, upon acceptance into the program.
  • There is no at-camp transportation being provided, and hotel arrangements are the responsibility of the athletes.
  • Athletes under the age of 17 require parental/guardian consent to participate in the camp and must sign the appropriate OCC waiver.

Mixed Doubles – Nationals Preparation Camp

March 3-4, 2016, Toronto (Toronto Cricket Club)

  • Teams who have qualified for the 2016 Canadian Mixed Doubles Championships in Saskatoon through the NOCA or OCA provincial playdowns, or through CTRS rankings (if Ontario residents) will be invited to attend a Nationals Preparation Camp in Toronto.
  • The camp will provide an opportunity to work on technical, tactical and strategical skills and provide valuable opportunity for game play with coaching assistance.
  • Mixed Doubles Athlete Profiling – Teams will undergo skill-based testing and fitness testing at the Canadian Sport Institute of Ontario.
  • Teams will be provided an entry into the Toronto Cricket Mixed Doubles Bonspiel and provided coaching support throughout the competition.
  • Financial Assistance for travel and accommodation will be provided.
